This time, UNLV was pretty for long enough to pull away in the second half, doing so in a 73-48 victory over Texas-Pan American Tuesday night at the Thomas & Mack Center. The Rebels were led by 14 points from DeShawn Mitchell and 12 from Rene Rougeau.

The Texas-Pan American hoops squad hit just 10 of its 19 free throw attempts in its 2008-09 season opener. That's a percentage that begs for improvement, even if it didn't hurt the Broncs in the least bit in an 84-59 victory over Sul Ross State Saturday night. Covering up the miserable performance at the stripe was a blistering 61-percent showing from the field. To be specific, that's 36 makes on 59 tries.
