Gary Maki is Durango's third coach in as many years, taking over a Trailblazers program that won two games last year and eliminated its junior varsity program because of low numbers.
Maki has done everything from installing new offensive and defensive strategies to changing the uniforms with hopes of returning Durango to its past successes. The Trailblazers were perennial contenders early in the decade and won the Sunrise Region in 2001.
"I've seen a big change since I've been here," Maki said. "I think we've already made a lot of progress."
Durango has few returners but will rely on running back Romell Maxwell and lineman Fernando Diaz.
