Desert Pines will rely on junior quarterback Dalton Leilua and several other underclassmen in key positions, but that doesn't mean the Jaguars have lowered expectations.

Desert Pines, which opened in 1999, has reached the postseason in seven of its nine years and plans to add to the streak this fall.

"We are young, but they are experienced," Desert Pines coach Paul Bennett said.

Leila, for instance, completed 97-of-186 passes last year for 1,323 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Still, Leila and the Jaguars might be a year away from matching the school's 2002 campaign - they won the Sunrise Regional title and were state runners-up.
