Canyon Springs went undefeated in six Northeast Division games last fall to capture the league title in its fourth year of existence.
Repeating won't be easy.
Coach Matt Jenkins left to start Desert Oasis' program and quarterback DeVonte Christopher - the state's player of the year, who passed for 44 touchdowns in leading the Pioneers to the Sunrise Regional semifinals - graduated.
Still, new coach Chris Littmann, an assistant last year, doesn't anticipate a down season.
"We expect victory. We're going to contend for the division and make a run in the playoffs," Littmann said.
The Pioneers will be led by senior wide receiver DeShawn Stewart, who had 43 receptions for 1,002 yards and 14 touchdowns last year. Also, linebacker Timmarie Randolph and John Podmeyer, both seniors, enter their third year.
