Bonanza only won two games last year but should be improved as coach Shawn Dupris enters his second season. Dupris saw increased participation in his offseason program and feels that could be the difference.

"All of the kids have been showing up," he said. "They have bought into the program."

Bonanza is trying to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2004. The school has been around since the 1970s -- an eternity compared to other schools in the Las Vegas Valley -- but has won only two playoff games.

The Bengals are led by junior offensive lineman Dieante Perez, who started every game last year as sophomore.
