Hey, Vegas Vic,
Two years ago, flooding damaged the rock landscaping on Interstate 215 at Stephanie Street. Why has it still not been repaired?
An October 2006 downpour carved what looks like a small wash in the rock-covered embankment on the south side of the freeway.
At the time, the county claimed a developer building on adjacent land was responsible — the absence of flood control facilities on the developer’s property resulted in the torrent’s rushing toward the freeway, the county argued.
But the developer disagreed. And the dispute delayed the fix.
The developer won the staredown and — surprise! — taxpayers will foot the $99,000 bill for repairs.
“In the interest of public safety we needed to get this ... fixed, so we took it upon ourselves to fix it rather than continue to negotiate developer participation,” county Public Works spokesman Bobby Shelton told Vegas Vic.
The Clark County Commission is expected to award the contract for the work today. If it’s approved, repairs should be finished within about 45 days.
If it isn’t, Vegas Vic fears, since it has been there for two years now, that miniwash might start showing up on maps.
