An 11-year-old bicyclist who died after he was struck Saturday morning by a pickup truck in east Las Vegas has been identified as Travis Smith of Las Vegas, the Clark County coroner's office said today.
The bicycle and the pickup truck collided at about 9:28 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Morris Street and Danica Way, police said.
Officers said evidence and witnesses at the scene indicated that a 2008 Ford F-350 pickup truck driven by Pearce Thorns, 21, of Las Vegas, was traveling south on Morris Street when the bicyclist riding a BMX Fury east on Danica Way failed to stop at a stop sign.
The boy was taken to Sunrise Hospital and was pronounced dead a short time after he arrived, police said.
Officers investigating the crash said it appears failure to stop at the stop sign was the cause of the crash, which is still under investigation.
Police are asking for anyone who saw the accident to contact the Secret Witness line at 385-5555 or Detective William Redfairn at 828-3128.

This accident has touched me so close to home I live on the steet wher travis was hit while riding his bike and my thougts and prayers are with his family. MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL IN THIS TIME!
I'm one of Travis' aunts. Thank you. I wish there was a way to contact the young man who was driving the truck. He's so young and needs to know that I hope he is doing ok. He'll live with this the rest of his life and I hope he doesn't blame himself. That's why it's called an "accident"... He could not have done anything different to stop it from happening.
