flashpoint:
The media caused the world economic crisis
Fri, Nov 21, 2008 (2 a.m.)
If you didn’t know who caused the world economic crisis, Mayor Oscar Goodman does: The media. Yes, it’s the nattering nabobs who won’t talk about anything positive. Or, as His Honor said at his news conference Thursday after ranting about the Culinary Union’s negativity about his “genius” ideas: “I’d like a little help from the media, too, to say it’s a good thing when a city is flourishing instead of the stocks are in the tank, gaming is a stepchild, all these kind of things. Because what happens is, perception becomes reality ... and I believe much of the world’s economic problems are based on perception. If people talked about things positively, we may not be in the mess we are now.” You hear that, media? Be positive and the Dow will crest 10,000 soon.
