The chancellor of Nevada's public higher education system is getting a long-awaited sit-down meeting with Gov. Jim Gibbons today.

The topic of the conversation scheduled for 2 p.m. will be the state's dire financial straits.

Chancellor Jim Rogers said he is bringing to the governor ideas for raising revenue, which could help decrease the amount of money public agencies, including state colleges, in Nevada will have to cut from their budgets over the next two years.

Among ideas Rogers plans to present:

-- Raising student fees and tuition

-- Doing away with some state tax exemptions

-- Raising money through bonds to cover what many state leaders believe are temporary shortfalls in state revenue

-- A plan pitched previously by Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki, who suggested taking $1.2 billion in tobacco settlement money the state is set to get over the next 17 years and turning it into a one-time payment of $600 million to $700 million

-- Marshalling county resources in addition to state resources to fund higher education, a common practice in some other states
