Shadow Ridge pulled out a 34-13 win Friday night over Chaparral.

Mustangs head coach Gabe Gledhill said the team has room for improvement, but Shadow Ridge was glad to get a win at home.

"We've got a lot to work on, but I was happy," Gledhill said.

Chaparral’s Pierre Jones rushed for 70 yards and two touchdowns but it wasn’t enough to overcome the team's five turnovers.

“Those turnovers really killed us,” Chaparral coach Fernando Carmona said. “We just need to execute better. We have a lot of juniors and this was their first time under the Friday night lights. They had some stage fright.”

Jones had scoring runs of 12 and 5 yards, the second of which cut the Cowboys' deficit to 18-13 in the fourth quarter. But Shadow Ridge returned the ensuing kickoff to Chaparral’s 2-yard line and scored the game’s final 16 points.

Shadow Ridge has a week to get ready for an away game at Coronado. Chaparral's next opponent is Del Sol at home.

Late touchdown lifts Patriots over Rancho

Liberty's Carlos Tautoto’s 7-yard touchdown run with four minutes to play Friday night lifted the host Patriots to a 21-14 come-from-behind victory against Rancho.

The Patriots trailed 14-7 at halftime but held Rancho scoreless the final 24 minutes.

“It was a great game,” Liberty coach Lou Markouzis said. “We made it interesting, that is for sure.”

Shawn Murray had a pair of touchdowns for Liberty, including a 25-yard touchdown reception for Ryan Doty, to even the score at 14. He also had a 6-yard touchdown run.

Liberty, which opened in 2003, is looking for its first-ever playoff berth. A win in the first game is a good step, Markouzis said.

“This win gets the monkey off our backs sort of speak. It gives us momentum,” the coach said.

Liberty had three or four rushers with nearly 100 yards, he added.

Arbor View wins at home over Eldorado

Arbor View beat Eldorado, 15-7, at home Friday night.

Eldorado head coach Leon Evans said he thought his team played well in some areas but didn't show up offensively.

“We had a few chances to get back in the game, but didn’t capitalize on a few plays,” he said.

Arbor View will play at Durango next week. Eldorado faces Basic.
